Current wearables lean masculine and bulky. This design fills a gap in the market for women seeking both style and functionality.

This is the mood board I created featuring my favorite design features of other vintage watches. I then sketched out my own idea playing with different watch face designs.

TIMELINE

I love working out and tracking my activity throughout the day which means I need a fitness wearable that I can wear the whole day. However, I found that almost all fitness wearables don’t work with everyday or dressier outfits. Even the models marketed as “fashion-forward” lean masculine and bulky. There’s a clear gap in the market for a fitness watch designed specifically for women, one that blends seamlessly into both casual and elegant settings.
I drew inspiration from a vintage gold watch that I own love and similar designs I found online. Its dainty, timeless style was the foundation for my concept. I wanted to capture that same elegant aesthetic while embedding all the features of a modern fitness tracker.
The design features a slim, gold watch body with a rounded-rectangle face. At first glance, it looks like a classic analog watch with hands and a minimalist dial. Discreet fitness icons — such as a heart symbol for heart rate and a step counter — are subtly integrated into the corners of the face. This preserves the vintage style while signaling its functionality as a wearable.
The vision is to provide full fitness-tracking capabilities, from daily step counts to workout logging, but in a form factor that feels more like jewelry than technology. It’s a watch you could wear to the gym, to brunch, or with an evening outfit without sacrificing style.
Alongside the watch, I designed the companion mobile app to mirror the same minimalist aesthetic. It will include a dashboard for daily activity, workout summaries, and health stats.
A unique design challenge is how to start workouts from an analog-style watch face. My solution would be a hybrid interaction system:
Tap-and-hold on the analog watch face to reveal a discreet digital overlay.
This overlay would allow you to quickly log or start workouts, similar to Apple Watch, without breaking the illusion of the analog style.
Once the action is taken, the watch face returns to its classic analog mode.
This concept bridges the gap between fitness functionality and fashion, creating a wearable that’s as elegant as it is practical. It proves that technology doesn’t have to look technical it can be timeless, subtle, and beautiful.
